Paris has always known how to dress for the evening, but its formal calendar is famously discreet. Balls are announced in French on association websites, opera galas sell to patrons first, and some of the most beautiful nights happen outside the city, at Versailles, Chantilly or Deauville. If you are searching for a Paris gala 2026 to plan around, this guide shows how the year unfolds and introduces The Black-Tie Year · Paris, our Calendar Edition 2026–27, with 77 galas, balls and black-tie nights from one Réveillon to the next.
Read on for the shape of the Paris year, a few verified dates, what the calendar includes and does not, and how to make the most of it.
Why a Paris Gala Calendar Helps
Most Paris galas are not marketed to visitors. A Viennese ball might live on a single association page; an opera gala might appear first in a patrons' newsletter; a costume ball at Versailles might sell out within weeks of being announced. For an English-speaking woman, the language barrier adds a second layer of friction.
A calendar does not remove the dress code or the price, but it shows you which nights exist and when to look. That is usually the difference between attending and reading about it later.
The Shape of the Paris Year
The 77 nights in the Paris edition cover Paris, Versailles, Chantilly and Deauville. December 2026 begins with nine nights, six of them confirmed when the edition was published in October 2026, and January follows with seven, including couture week and the Gala des Artistes de l'Académie at the Palais Garnier.
Late winter and spring bring the Austrian Ball, Paris Fashion Week and the spring art fairs. June is the busiest month, with 11 nights, from the Prix de Diane at Chantilly to masked balls at Versailles. Summer moves to the racecourses of Chantilly and Deauville and the night gardens of Versailles. Autumn brings the Arc de Triomphe weekend, Art Basel Paris and the Bal des Débutantes, and December 2027 closes with nine nights, many of them Réveillon dinners.
Verified dates to anchor your diary
- Bal Autrichien (the Austrian Ball): Saturday 27 February 2027, at the InterContinental Paris – Le Grand Hôtel, according to the organizer, the Association Autrichienne à Paris. The calendar lists it as black tie and long gown.
- New Year's Eve at the Palais Garnier: the Paris Opera Ballet performs Pulsations on Thursday 31 December 2026 at 7:30 pm, part of a run from 4 December 2026 to 2 January 2027, per the Opéra national de Paris.
Both appear as Confirmed in the calendar. Other nights are Expected or Window, so check the official page before you commit.
What The Black-Tie Year · Paris Includes
The following comes straight from the product description and the PDF.
- 77 nights, month by month, from New Year's Eve 2026 to New Year's Eve 2027, in Paris, Versailles, Chantilly and Deauville.
- A status on every date: Confirmed (31 nights), Expected, projected from the event's pattern in previous years, or Window, when only the season is known.
- Ten ambiences: Old Money, Ballroom, Museum & Art, Opera, Ballet & Stage, Young Patrons, Fashion & Glam, Garden & Hats, Equestrian, Masquerade and Romantic.
- Venue, official website and Instagram for each entry, so you can follow the organizer and catch the announcement the day it drops.
- Invitation-only nights marked "By invitation · watch," such as some couture and art-world evenings, so you know which ones shape the season rather than sell tickets.
- The year at a glance: nights per month on one page.
It is a 19-page PDF, Edition 1.0, October 2026, delivered instantly.
What It Does Not Include
- No tickets, no reservations and no guaranteed entry. It is an independent guide, not affiliated with or endorsed by any organization listed.
- No how-to on buying or dressing for each room. The calendar tells you when. Paris — Access, Explained tells you how: where to buy, what to wear and how to be.
- Not every date is final. 31 of 77 nights were confirmed at publication. Treat the rest as an early warning, not a booking.
- Not every soirée in Paris. Some listed nights are festive rather than black tie, and the calendar says so in the venue line, as with the July 13 Bals des Pompiers.
Who It Is For
The Paris edition is for the woman who wants her next Paris trip to include one unforgettable evening, the expatriate who lives in Paris but has never found the balls, and the opera or ballet lover who wants to see the Palais Garnier dressed for a gala rather than a Tuesday matinee.
If you are new to formal evenings, start with what a gala dinner is, the black tie dress code for women and charity gala etiquette.
How to Use the Paris Calendar
Choose by ambience first
Paris is unusually strong in Ballroom and Masquerade nights, from Viennese balls to costume evenings at Versailles. If a dress code requires a mask or period costume, the venue line tells you, so you can plan early.
Look at the under-28 nights
The calendar lists Paris Opera previews for under-28s. If you qualify, these are an elegant and affordable way into the Palais Garnier and the Opéra Bastille.
Remember the day trips
Chantilly, Versailles and Deauville are part of the Paris year. Allow for trains, cars and a change of shoes.
Follow in French
Many organizers announce first in French. Following the official accounts listed in the calendar is the simplest way not to miss the date.
